Shiva Essentials, Inc., a Florida 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, was founded by the family of JEFF OPPENHEIM who passed away on January 23, 2024. 

After his burial and first days of shiva in Baltimore, Maryland, his wife, Phyllis, son, Greg, and daughter, Aly returned home to Dania Beach to observe the remaining days. They had no idea how difficult it would be to arrange for the low chairs and prayer books needed so that services could be led in the shiva home. Numerous calls to funeral homes and synagogues in the area yielded no results. Without the help of Phyllis’ brother, the family would not have had the essentials needed to observe shiva in the home, with twice a day prayer service at which Kaddish could be recited.

The family decided that every Jewish family should be able to mourn according to Jewish tradition without spending the time and energy that we had to. In Jeff’s memory, the organization was formed with the singular goal of making the essentials for shiva available to any family in need, at no charge.
